A brief history.

The Club was founded on it’s present site in 1908, though from the old records held by the Kent LTA it is likely that a tennis club of some name had been established in the locality well before this date. At that time it was a tennis club only, squash being added in the mid 1930’s.

The Club really started to have an impact in the 1920’s when many of its members represented the county. From that point onwards the Club has played a prominent role on the tennis scene, producing a consistent flow of County players at junior and senior level, of which some, notably our current President Richard Whichello, have represented Great Britain. It is also the case that throughout this history of success in competitive tennis, the Club has also provided ample opportunity for members to play the game at all levels of ability. That will continue to be our aim.

The two older squash courts were built in 1936 on land that was bought to secure the expansion of the tennis facilities and the establishment of the squash section of the Club. Squash was in its infancy and very few courts existed outside central London. It was thought that these new courts, provided entirely through the efforts of the members (no sponsorship in those days) were the first to be built by a private members club in the South London/Kent area. Since then, two further courts have been built. Squash remains buoyant in the club, SPARKS (the squash section) members of all abilities enjoy playing friendlies, league games, team matches in the Priory league as well as Doubles and Racketball. Squash members are able to use the tennis courts five times a year.

Here at Sundridge Park we are a small, but very friendly and inexpensive "run-by-the-members, for-the-members" squash and tennis club, and we welcome new members, both young and old, and of all standards.

The club is set in 6 acres of very attractive grounds, and there is really nothing better than being outside on the grassed area overlooking the grass courts and enjoying a drink or a barbecue on a warm summer’s balmy evening. The 1920s clubhouse exudes a special character and ambience, friendly barstaff, comfortable, guest ales, frequent BBQs as well as well attended social events which take place on a regular basis.
