Tennis Tournament
The tennis tournament organised by Jake Johnson, Richard Whichello and Sandra Whichello on 5th January proved a marvellous way to start the new year. There was a fantastic turnout with 36 participants, even though a couple of women had to double as men. We were lucky with the weather after heavy downpours the day before. In fact, the sun was so bright that if, like me, you had forgotten your sunglasses, it was virtually impossible to see at one end of the court!
Everybody enjoyed the tennis and a great lunch was provided by many ladies (and Graham Large!) and huge thanks to all of them. The men contributed extra money behind the bar so everyone had a free drink to wash down the tasty quiches, pies and salads – not forgetting excellent cheese and a variety of delicious desserts. We did ourselves proud!
The ladies winner was Hilary Powell and the runner up Linda Bird. The joint winners of the men were Don Weir and Bill Cole.
Hearty thanks are due to Jake, Richard and Sandra for organising the event and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we look forward to more of the same. The word is that there may be another one on 23rd February. All of those interested keep an eye on the noticeboard.
Rose Poole.
