CLUB CENTENARY YEAR 1908 - 2008

APPEAL TO ALL MEMBERS PAST AND PRESENT

This year the Club celebrates its Centenary Year.   First it was a tennis club by the name of Sundridge Park Lawn Tennis Club.   It became Sundridge Park Lawn Tennis & Squash Rackets Club 25 years later when two squash courts were added.  When I joined in 1965 there were 12 grass courts, 3 shale courts and 3 squash courts.  We now have 4 squash courts, 8 grass courts, 7 all weather courts of which 4 are floodlit, and by resurfacing 4 artificial grass courts we will have 4 artificial clay courts at the start of the new season which will also be floodlit.  We have the best grass courts in Kent and we have Richard Whichello – former Davis Cup player - as our Head Coach.

At the last MC meeting I was voted to be the Club’s Centenary Chair.  I feel greatly honoured to be trusted with this temporary role and will do my very best to make the Centenary Year a year to remember.  However, as we are a members’ club I would be very grateful if you will help to make the Centenary Year a great success.

Please email me with ideas of events and sponsorship, and/or volunteer to assist in organising one or more of the following areas:-

1. Sporting events
a. Pascalathon
b. Tennis
c. Squash
d. Inter-section competitions

2. Junior events
a. Tennis
b. Squash
c. Inter-section competitions

3. Social events

Please feel free to let me know of a better way to organise the above three, e.g. we could simply include 2 into 1, but also have events specifically for juniors.  Perhaps we could also have an event for very seniors.  Or one wearing tennis clothes of the past, playing with wooden rackets!  Do you have photographs we could use?  Please let me have your ideas and suggestions on how to celebrate, and let me know if you are willing to help.

With regard to Social Events – Nan Casey has already planned a programme which can be added to, and Nan will need a team to help her, especially with the arrangements for the Marquee Ball on 27 September.  It would be great to see past members simply as spectators at some of the above events, or come to the Marquee Ball.  Tickets will be around £60.00 per person which includes food, and there will be a live band.

I very much look forward to hearing from you very soon.

News & Events

After all the excitement and expenditure of energy during the day, it was nice to relax and enjoy the not inconsiderable talent of Salvatore De Concilis. We were treated to a fine selection of different musical genres complete with vocals. The event was a sell out, the wine flowed and a few brave souls ventured on to the dance floor.

Joint tournament with Sundridge Park and Bromley Cricket Club - Saturday 22 June
