Open Day 10 May
Our first Open Day this year on 10th May was a lively occasion with the new artificial clay courts up and running and looking magnificent. Well done Bob! Richard Whichello, with various brilliant helpers, took junior sessions on these courts for most of the day. Many thanks to all concerned. Jake ran adult sessions on the lower courts during the first part of the day and came up to join Richard, together with Alex Francis, later in the day – it was lovely to see all the youngsters having such a great time and the coaches running everything so well.
The squash courts were busy too. Thanks to John Barry who ran a squash coaching session and very special thanks to all members who helped and welcomed prospective members.
The sun shone and the atmosphere was fantastic with a Ladies Tennis Match on courts 1 and 2, Club Afternoon on courts 4-8 and a really entertaining Exhibition Tennis Match with Richard Whichello and James Everett playing Max Brown and Henry Whyte at lunchtime. An excellent BBQ was provided by Sue and Steve Spinks and several ladies brought delicious home-made cakes.
A stirling job was done on the desk all day by Sue Highmore, Simon Tyrrell-Lewis and Vince Grima. Many thanks also to the Tennis Committee, in particular Audrey Bloomfield and Sue Paton, for all their hard work.
So far we have 21 new adult tennis members, 6 adult squash, 1 A junior, 18 B juniors, 5 C juniors and 8 social members. We must make sure all our new members feel at home and watch out for the date of the Welcome to New Members Evening.
The Club looks truly wonderful with the new courts and the grass courts in such good condition – all we need now is for the weather to be kind to us this summer so we can have lots of play on all these courts and look forward to the next Open Day on 28 June.
