The Rans American Tournament
The Rans American Tournament was held on Saturday, 9th August in memory of the long-standing member Mick Rans who sadly died in 2007. Despite inclement weather (ie steady rain and a gale force 6 wind) everybody who participated had an enjoyable afternoon. Competition was fierce and blood was spilt (literally!). It was good to see such a wide age range of the players, approximately 60 years, and the handicap system ensured an even tournament. The guile and placement of the "oldies" was a great match for the speed and agility of the youngsters. Eventually Chris Ennis was the overall winner and was presented with the trophy by Celine Rans, which she had kindly donated. Thanks also to Margaret Putman and John Bland for their organisation of the event, Nan Casey for the very welcome hot tea and cakes and Tony O'Brien for the barbecue.
