SIMON HOPPER GIG
Sundridge Park was delighted to welcome Simon, Andee Price, Leigh Trowbridge and Kevin Richards to a packed Club looking forward to Simon's inimitable combination of folk, with blues, rock and jazz influences.
Simon never disappoints as, as with all great leaders he surrounds himself with extremely gifted musicians and realizes that variety is the spice of life, with constantly changing formations... solos.....duets....trio and quartet play. Simon rings the changes, always the leader but happy to give his other musicians a showcase for their talents.... bongo drum type accompaniment , mandolin, acoustic solos and audience participation choruses.
Although self penned, Simon's compositions are less self indulgent than others, his use of imagery is both clever, amusing and poignant with anecdotes of Scandinavian encounters and melting icebergs, to me, the highlights of this superb evening ! And he can also carry a good tune !
Simon never disappoints ! Serious about his music, a clever and gifted musician himself (unlike his prowess as a squash player) it is clear that he takes his music seriously but always realizes that part of his raison d'etre is to entertain - which he does in abundance and supremely well !
Sundridge Park was very pleased to host Simon's 2nd fans appreciation gig - hopefully we won't have to wait another year before seeing him back again !
