Mariska Adamson

Tennis Committee

I joined SPLT & SR Club in the summer of 1965, a year after arriving in England. Initially I played tennis only and was very soon selected to play in the teams, invited to join the social committee and captain teams. There was no tennis in the winter in those days and no floodlit courts, so I joined Squash as well and even played squash for the club. In due course I became a tennis committee member for a great many years under several tennis and club chairmen, then honorary secretary (I believe I was the first female Hon Sec), and subsequently tennis chairman before breaking away from committee membership in 1998 because of work commitments. When made redundant I invested some cash in becoming a Life Member. Subsequently several approaches were made to become Tennis Chairman again and finally two years ago I succumbed. The club has given me many supportive friends and helped me integrate in my adopted country.

News & Events

After all the excitement and expenditure of energy during the day, it was nice to relax and enjoy the not inconsiderable talent of Salvatore De Concilis. We were treated to a fine selection of different musical genres complete with vocals. The event was a sell out, the wine flowed and a few brave souls ventured on to the dance floor.
