Vince Grima

Squash Committee

My wife Jan and I moved to the Sundridge Park area 18 years ago and having just started my business, I found myself leaving at 6 am in the morning and not getting home until  8 or 9 pm at nights. So for the first 12 years of living here I didn’t even know that Garden Road existed or that we had a friendly local squash club just around the corner.

On the inevitable school run that comes with having two boys, my wife Jan met up with another mother whose husband played squash at Sundridge Park.  He, (Robin Whyte), suggested that I join him in a couple of friendly matches, which I did, and thoroughly enjoyed.  It escalated from there and I eventually joined the Club about seven years ago.  Jan and the boys followed suit and now enjoy playing both squash and tennis.

As time passed I became very involved in squash, much to the annoyance of my wife! I joined the Squash Committee after 4 years and this year decided to take on the role of Squash Chairman.

We have a lot to do within the Club, but all this work is now in hand.  Progress is being made in all directions since Bob Wilson, our new Club Chairman, has taken over.  All sections of the Club are benefiting from a more direct approach of leadership.

Finally, I would just like to say that this is a great Club with great members; truly a green oasis in a concrete jungle.
