New Coaching Team Announcement
WAM is run by Richard Whichello and Billy McManus and is an initiative devised by them to promote tennis in local primary schools. They coach 5-11 year olds who show an interest in the game at a range of facilities across the Bromley Borough
Most of you will already know Richard and Billy well but for those that don’t and for new members, here are some details:
Richard Whichello was No. 1 British Junior from 10 – 18 years and won a record 21 British Junior Titles. He represented Great Britain in various junior tournaments and became a professional player in 1985 representing Great Britain in the Davis Cup. He was a member of Kent Mens County Team which won the National Inter-County Championships of Great Britain in 1986 + 1987. Richard had to retire from professional tennis in 1992 due to back injury but still captains the Kent Mens County Team which won victories in 2002, 2004 and 2006. He also coaches on the Junior Wimbledon Tennis Initiative.
Billy McManus also represented Great Britain at all junior age groups and won 19 Junior County Titles. Billy played professionally from 1999-2001 when he retired due partly to a car accident but also because he wanted to pursue a coaching role. During his time as a professional Billy travelled extensively as part of the national squad competing in Africa, Australia and America. He played 5 years German league tennis from 1997-2002. Billy has been a Member of Kent Men’s Team from 1997. He also works individually with several of Kent’s leading junior players.
Richard and Billy joined Sundridge Park when they were juniors and therefore have very strong ties with the Club. Their loyalty to the Club is not in doubt. They are both really looking forward to putting in place a fully structured year round coaching programme for adults and juniors at Sundridge. They will be joined by Nick Greenhouse who was Under 14 and Under 16 National Champion. He won many more events in his junior career and represented Great Britain at all Junior levels before turning professional. Nick has a vast knowledge of cultures across the world having travelled extensively with tennis since the age of 12.
We are very excited at having all three as our coaches.
Tennis Committee.
