Tennis update on junior Players.

Naomi Cavaday, Celia’s daughter, played Martina Hingis in the first round at Wimbledon this year.  Naomi had two match points in the second set but Hingis’ experience came into force and the final score was 6-7, 7-5, 6-0 to Hingis.  Naomi is a former pupil of Bromley High School and has done very well in her junior career reaching the quarter finals at Junior Wimbledon in 2006. She is now 18 and has decided to join the senior women’s tour and the challengers circuit and will be going to America shortly to prepare for the hard court season and the US Open in August.  Naomi has done well in The States winning an International Tennis Federation singles title in California in March and reaching the semi-finals of another ITF event in Palm Beach.  We wish her well and await more exciting news.  Incidentally, brother Nick plays for the Kent team and will be playing during County Week at Eastbourne in the week commencing 23 July.

Lewis Whiteley won the final of the Road to Wimbledon competition beating Francis Sargeant of Beckenham.  This means that Lewis will be representing Kent in the boys singles to play in the National Finals at Wimbledon between August 20-25.  Well done Lewis!

James Wilson and Edouard Whyte won the Kent Schools Tennis Association Annual Championships.  This was a particularly sweet win for James as he has only recently started playing again after two years illness.
