All about the Tennis section:

General

  • The summer tennis season runs from May to September.
  • The winter tennis season runs from October to April.
  • All courts, except the grass courts, are available for tennis from 09.00 a.m. untill   10.00 p.m. Priority is given to Juniors on Court 16 at all times and in the summer in addition on Court 12 except during club afternoon. The Club Coach has priority on certain courts at certain times and these will be notified on the blackboard, which is situated on the left wall on the way to the hard courts.

Club Sessions

Club Sessions take place in winter on the artificial courts only from 13.00 till dusk on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday afternoons; in summer on grass and artificial courts from 14.00 till 18.00 and also on Tuesday evenings.  As mentioned above the top hard courts Nos 13 and 14 will be used for Kent and North Kent League matches on most winter mornings. They are free for booking if not used for matches. The bottom hard courts are available for coaching, but free for booking if not used by the coach.  Courts 15 and 16 are to be used for Junior Club sessions on Saturdays from 14.00 – 16.00 hours, provided court no. 15 is not used for Kent or North Kent League matches because of rain.

Club Session players must come off after 1 short set (first to 6 games) at weekends, and mix in with those waiting for a game.  If new members turn up, please make them welcome and invite them to play with you.  Provided no one is waiting for a court, two sets can be played, at weekends, after 17.00 hours.

Etiquette

  • Predominantly white clothes and shoes are preferred, although not insisted upon.
  • Soles of shoes must be suitable for grass and artificial grass courts
  • When play is in progress please wait until a point is played :-
    >  before entering the court.
    >  before picking up a ball on another court
    >  before returning a ball.
  • Senior players should give good examples to juniors.

Mini Tennis

A full size tennis court and adult-sized equipment make it difficult for young children to learn tennis.  The LTA developed a modified version of the game appropriate for kids aged 4-10. There are three different stages – Red, Orange and Green.  Young or inexperienced children start with shorter rackets and special tennis balls on a small court and then as they get bigger and stronger they progress onto a bigger court and play longer matches.

Members may bring a visitor to play up to five times in each Club year, which runs from 1 April to 31 March the following year.  Each time a visitor’s fee of £3.00 (Mon-Fri 9am – 6pm) or £5.00 (evenings & weekends) is paid, the names of both the member and the visitor must be entered in the visitors’ book. The visitor’s fee is payable over the bar or, when the bar is closed, to any committee member or member of staff.

B & C Juniors can only bring a visitor if prior approval has been given by a member of the Junior Committee.
