Grass Courts
The groundsman, Steve Johnson, has the tennis committee’s authority to decide if and when the grass courts will be open. In principal, the season is from the beginning of May until the end of September. However, some courts may be opened or closed earlier if Steve considers it suitable or necessary.
- Weekends: from 11.00 am till dusk, except for matches when it may be 10.30 am.
- Weekdays: from 1pm to dusk. Steve will decide, on a daily basis, if some courts can open in the morning, in mid-summer, and if others need to be rested, possibly all day.
- Courts 1, 2 and 3 are available for Kent and North Kent League matches only until the Summer Tournament’s final’s day. During July they may be used for club tournament matches if there is not a club match on that day.
- Singles: Members may play off peak Monday-Friday, before 6.30pm, throughout the season, subject to conditions. At peak times, there can be no singles play if people are waiting to play doubles, with the exception of Singles Tournament matches, which may be played
-
Kent and North Kent League matches will be played on the top hard Courts Nos 13 and 14 on winter mornings. In the summer when it rains Courts Nos 13, 14 and 15 would be needed for three pair league matches and Nos 13 and 14 only for two pair matches. Very occasionally, if these courts are unfit for play, Courts 10, 11 and 12 (the artificial courts) may be used. Notification will be chalked up on the blackboard when possible.
-
‘A’ Juniors have all the playing privileges of adult tennis members.
‘B’ Juniors are permitted to play on a free court, must give way to senior members and have priority on the courts designated for Juniors.
‘C’ Juniors may only play under the supervision of an adult and must also give way to senior members. -
Courts not used for Club Sessions, matches or coaching can be booked for 1 hour on the arrival of a minimum of two players, except on the courts designated for juniors. Please chalk up booking on the blackboard. At the end of the hour the court can be booked again for another hour unless other members have booked it.
-
Courts not used for Club Sessions can be booked for the duration of a tournament or league match on the arrival of a minimum of two players. Please indicate “tournament” or “league” when writing on the blackboard.
Floodlight Courts
- The charges for Floodlight Courts 13, 17, 18 and 19 are £12.00 per one and a half hour session. Court 14 is free of charge if court 13 is in use at present as lighting is limited.
- Tokens are obtainable from the bar. Each court has its own meter and they are situated in the lobby of Squash Courts 1 & 2.
- Courts can be booked up to two weeks in advance in the Floodlight Book by entering the names of the players or the organiser. Please give enough notice if play is not to take place by crossing out the names as soon as possible, to enable other members to play. Please note that the Club loses revenue if the floodlight courts are not used and reserves the right to charge people for not using booked courts or late cancellations.
- Please insert tokens a couple of minutes before the floodlight starting times of 17.30, 19.00 and 20.30 hours as set out in the booking sheets in order for the lights to warm up or remain on. If you put them in after they have gone out it can take at least 10 minutes for them to come on again.
