Winter Finals Day Sundridge Park Tennis Club

22nd April 2007

The Winter tennis finals took place on Sunday in glorious summer temperatures.

The most exciting match of the day was the hard fought Warden Medley where Carol Blackburn and Steve Whitlock narrowly beat Diane Toothe and Chris Arnheim in a nail-biting three setter, the third set ending at 11-9.

In the Ladies Handicap Doubles Adrienne Weston and Sue Paton beat a plucky Anna Wilson and Nicky Gregory.

Sue Paton appeared again in the Mixed Handicap Doubles with partner Dick Ward. They beat James Everett and Rosie Mackenzie. “I enjoyed it but it was a bit daunting playing against Dick as he’s 6’4”! says Rosie.

In the Adult/Junior Handicap Doubles Lewis Whitely and his father, Ian, beat Elodie Whyte and Don Weir and Lewis went on to play Peter Mackenzie in the Men’s Handicap singles, which Lewis also won in two straight sets.

In a good all round match James and Bob Wilson, beat David Evans and Matt Shelton in two straight sets.

It was a fun day and we’re now looking forward to our next event – Open Day on 5th May – please tell all your friends about it and we’d love volunteers for leaflet distribution.
